🍎📚FlannelBoardFun felt board story sets are multi-use circle time fun! With each felt set, you get the lyrics for three or more rhymes, songs and/or stories to use with it!
As a teacher, I had a requirement to talk with the kids about the weather each day. (I know--seems like a strange requirement to me, too!) But anyway...Weather conversations occurred naturally, since weather is something that typically affects all of us in some way or another. Raining? The kids had rain gear on and likely got wet on the way to school. Snowing? Maybe we'll go outside and we'll have to put on some snow gear! Hot and sunny? We'll be sure we've all got sunscreen on for playground time...
But just in case it didn't come up in natural conversation, Weather Bear is a great workaround :)

This Halloween felt board rhyme is simple and sweet. It exposes the kids to Halloween vocabulary words and concepts in a way that is sweet instead of scary. Using this type of felt board rhyme, with visuals to go along with the words, helps those little brains absorb all that early learning goodness 😊

The summer reading program is focusing on animals (tails) and stories (tales) this year. Well, I've got plenty of both types of flannel boards that fit the bill--but I thought it would be fun to add some new songs and movement activities to the mix.
Over the remaining couple of weeks, I'll be adding new videos of these new songs to my YouTube channel. I'll also post them right here on the blog.
You might already know that I love elephants. They are amazing creatures, which is probably why kids love them as much as I do. Of course, they aren't actually quite as colorful as my set, but I do like to make things rainbow-ish ;) Anyway, you also may have seen these beauties in some of my other elephant videos, but I wanted to add some opposite words to the mix.
So here we've got opposites (short and long), a little math and rhyming, and friendship bundled up together. You know: all the good preschooly stuff we love :)

So, let's sing about squirrels and acorns, shall we? We'll do a little counting, a little rhyming, a little tail-swishing and pretending. Might as well tuck a bunch of early learning into one short song, right? Right. Off we go!

Spread
out your acorns on the board, and tell the kids we are pretending that they are

Here's the second installment of my ideas for the summer reading program this year. The focus is on animals (tails) and stories (tales). I decided to create new lyrics for some of the felt sets I've used year after year, to mix things up a little and put those tried and true sets to brand new use!

Dinosaurs

Anyway, I have several rhymes and songs to go along with them. Below is the first one in the lineup: Five Dragons Up So High. (It's a good one to re-enforce position words and simple math skills like counting and color naming :) )
Well, it's a different world we live in right now, so I thought I'd make a little set of friends and write a little song about masks. Because we all need friends, and we all need masks, right? Right.

I love my old version of Five Fat Turkeys. But I wanted to sell a set in my shop, and the turkeys in that set were blatantly copied from another Flannel Friday fan! Plus, they were so layered and detailed that they would be a million dollars to buy. Maybe a million and one.
After a few requests, I finally got my rear in gear and created a new, simpler set. Similar cook, similar tree, new gobblers :)

I had fun using my Space Quiet Set along with the song Zoom, Zoom, Zoom We're Going to the Moon! (Thanks to JBrary for bringing this super fun song to my attention several years ago. I've used it about a zillion times since then.)

I've had a foam version of Slippery Fish in my classroom for years. It's been through a lot, and the fabric paint has peeled off of most pieces, and some of the octopus' arms are stapled on. Poor guy. So I finally took the time to re-do this set. Here it is!
I was introduced to Slippery Fish (actually, its real title is Octopus) from a Charlotte Diamond CD I bought many, many years ago. Like, maybe 20? I had no idea it was such a well known and oft-felted song! I use it Every. Single. Year. Frequently. And somehow I'm still not sick of it!

It's almost summer, and that means fall is just around the corner, so....I'll just link Flannel Friday's Fall Pinterest Page--I was inspired by several Fall is Not Easy posts there to create this one! I have one tough little cookie in my group this year who always says "I don't wanna hear that story" about pretty much everything. But when I suggest Fall is Not Easy, she says "Oh! That's my favorite one!"

I highly recommend scrunching up your face and being very theatrical with each attempt to change the leaves--guffaws are sure to follow!
Everything can be random except the spring, summer and fall leaves. I always make sure they are in the right order when I put them away for next time. I have 'spring' and 'summer' written on the back of those pieces, so everyone using the set knows what's what!
I printed out the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins emblems on Pellon Lutradur. They aren't very vibrant, and the glue dots show through, so I am not totally happy with them. But the kids LOVE their teams, so those are a big hit. I don't particularly like the NFL (shhhhh!), so I skipped the Steelers!
