Hedgehog and Friends

Another awesome custom order produced this set!  It's a combination of my Quilts Galore set and one of the hedgies from my Four Little Hedgehogs set, combined with 5 apples and a tree.  The intent is to use it with this story, and then there are probably quite a few others it could be used with as well--anything with apples/trees/animal friends...  Counting!  Hide and seek!  So many ways to use flannel board sets--I just love them :)

Over in the Meadow

I presented a bunch of flannel board songs and games to a lovely group of librarians this past week, and on the drive back home I started down memory lane.  I miss doing circle times!  I love singing, dancing, reading, and playing with kids!  (My cats just don't interact the same way ;)  )

One of the songs that stuck out on that lane of memories is this fantastic version of Over in the Meadow.  It's a Barefoot Books version, which I was introduced to by one of my past student's mom.  I just love, love, love it.  Here it is!

I have a felt set of this song, too.  I couldn't do all ten animals--it was just TOOooooo much. 

 But I've got five parents, and 15 babies, and that's just right for me :) 

(I ended up making a custom set for a lovely lady, and it does include all 10 parents and their wee babies.  In case you're interested, here's what that looked like:)

I love combining books and music, and this one throws in math as well!  Hey!  Learning IS fun!

Over in the Meadow

Finally!  I have been trying to make a new Over in the Meadow felt set for at least a year.  I think I was overwhelmed with the number of pieces--I had planned to make the accompanying scenery like sand, tree, beehive, etc.  But when I gave myself permission to just do the animal babies and their grown ups, it all came together :)

My animals are as cute as I could make them ;) My eyeballs are cut using a die cuts--no way can I make my circles that neat with a pair or scissors!

I love this song so much--I have four versions of the book in my classroom--not even including the Over in the Garden, Arctic, Jungle and Ocean versions!

Two Little Hoot Owls

I actually didn't intend to make these for my classroom.  I was experimenting with combining fabric and felt, and trying to learn the blanket stitch (several mistakes!), and came up with these owls. I love them, and thought they'd work well in a variation of Two Little Blackbirds.  I put a little velcro onto some craft sticks to turn them into puppets, and will be debuting these guys next week with my two-year-old class :)

These guys aren't currently for sale in my shop, but many of my other sets are!

Finger Puppet Duos!

A quick peek at Flannel Friday's Finger Puppet page sent me off to the store for embroidery floss and needles!  Two Little Blackbirds is a song that we do all the time during our Small and Large Group times (the adorable JBrary version linked is a chant--I'll try to find the tune I use and post it here).  I don't think I'd ever thought to use finger puppets for it--we just use our thumbs...  But these little guys really engage the children, and keep our fingers warm too!  

I maybe sewed last when I was in 8th grade, but haven't since then.  I will stick to basic stuff--my eyesight is definitely not what it once was!

These were made in the fall, and used a lot in the fall this year, but of course they can be used anytime!

The bats and blue birds above are from Mel's Desk.  I love her stuff!  My kids had to keep reminding me to say "bats" instead of "birds" when I used the bats.  Twenty years of saying "birds" is a hard habit to break!

This is a cute poem to go with these adorable penguins!

I did a google image search for bear finger puppets, and free handed my guys based on the results.
