Five Little Seashells

Unfortunately summer is just about gone, and I didn't get to the beach...  But look out below for some seashells and a wave!  Don't you almost feel like you're at the ocean...

This is a good one to use for a beach, summer, seasons or animals theme.  I especially love to save up warm weather felt boards to use during the colder months.   I used to do this and just take the shells away one at a time with my hand, but I love the use of a blue scarf to represent the wave...

Five Little Seashells
Five Little Seashells, lying on the shore.
Swish went the wave, and then there were four.

Four little seashells, pretty as can be.
Swish went the wave. Then there were three.

Three little seashells, all pearly new.
Swish went the wave. Then there were two.

Two little seashells, lying in the sun.
Swish went the wave. Then there was one.

One little seashell, lying all alone.
I picked it up and I took it home.

Flannel Friday Roundup for August 18th

Come one, come all!   Here's the Roundup for August 18th!

Okay, here we go!  Lot's of great, late summer contributions this week...

First off, we've got some adorable dinosaur puppets from Laura at One for the Books.  She shares a cute take on Five Elephants to go along with these cuties.

Next up is Kate at Felt Board Magic, sharing her sweet red apples and tree to go with Farmer Brown has Five Red Apples--and if you're still hungry after that, feel free to dig in to her Eggs for Breakfast

I love Kathryn's Thanks a Lot set (obviously, since I've made my own ;) ).  She's posting this at such a good time--since it might be hard to remember there are still many things to be thankful for in this crazy world...

Heather's timing is also spot on with her Eclipse set!  She shares a take on Little Mouse, and links to her Eclipse story time as well.

In keeping with the eclipse idea, Amy shares a really cute take on Brown Bear, Brown Bear:  Night Moon, Night Moon.

And I tried to escape to the ocean with my Five Little Seashells set.

Thanks for all the contributions this week!  You can also find tons of ideas at Flannel Friday's Pinterest Pages, the Flannel Friday Blog, and Flannel Friday's Facebook page.

Family Finger Puppets

I love finger puppets.  (I've posted about my collections before.)  They are small enough to have and store lots of them, and their small size doesn't stop them from being a great tool to draw in those less than attentive wiggly kids during a group time.  I like these people puppets, and they can be made with so many different skin and hair colors that all children can find one to relate to.  I also love the opportunity they give to represent all sorts of families:  two moms, two dads, single parents, big families, small...  Endless possibilities!
These would be great to use with a theme on families or All About Me.  But of course, pulling puppets out at any time is just a great way to get and keep the attention of the kids in your group.

The pattern for these adorable people is from Precious Patterns on Etsy (though I did make a few changes to the faces).

You can find lots of finger puppets and felt sets at my shop!
